The Hampton Roads Jr. Whalers are proud to announce that 1998 forward Cody Wilson from Virginia Beach, VA has committed to playing college hockey in 2019 for the West Virginia University Mountaineers.

Wilson is a home grown local product, he started playing hockey in the Chilled Ponds learn to play program, then progressed through the CPHL, Whaler Nation travel, and then onto the Whalers junior team.  In his 4th season with the junior program, Wilson has posted 18 goals and 26 assists this season, good for 44 points in 37 games.  In his 4 year junior career, Wilson has competed in 179 games, tallying 119 points on 40 goals and 79 assists.  Wilson notched 27 points in 45 games last season en route to winning the 2017-18 USPHL Elite championship.

“I have enjoyed watching Cody grow as both a player and a person”, stated Whalers head coach Brad Jones.  I have known Cody since he was a young kid watching the inaugural junior team in 2006, with aspirations of one day getting to that level.  He has grown immensely over the years, and I am proud of his accomplishments both on and off the ice.  I look forward to watching him continue his career while getting a quality education at WVU.”

“I would like to thank the whole Whaler organization and all of my coaches for everything they have done for me to get me where I am today”, stated Wilson.  “I grew up always watching the Junior Whalers knowing one day I wanted to be one.  I never knew how much the younger kids in the organization looked up to the juniors until I had started my first year. I’ve learned that the friendships and relationships that start with these families is a bond and a connection that lasts a lifetime.  I was very fortunate to be a part of last season’s historic Premier and Elite dual national championships.  To be a part of something as special as that creates memories you will always have and I’m happy I was able to do that with a group of guys I get to call my brothers.  I am excited to start the next chapter of my career at West Virginia”.

West Virginia is located in Morgantown, WV and competes in the ACHA’s College Hockey Mid-America (CMHA) conference.

Wilson becomes the Whalers 2nd commit of the 2018-19 season and joins Max Loga (Lebanon Valley), Brandon Osmundson (Utica), John Moncovich (Utica), and Jaxon Rutkowski (Utica) as committed Whalers.
