Whalers Sweep through the Windy City

Friday 6-1 WIN vs. Florida Jr. Blades

The Whalers dominated the Jr. Blades from the drop of the puck Friday morning, picking up 3 goals in each half en route to a 6-1 win.

Michael Bachman scored twice, while James Rowe, Jorai Bart, Nathan McNamara, and Tanner Davis each potted one.  10 different Whalers posted an assist, Tyler Dienna, James Rowe, Michael Bachman, Ruslan Abyanov, Joe Polcaro, Cody Wilson, Kyle Ball, Nate McNamara, DJ Randle, and Arun Cibrario.  Brandon Maio stopped 10 shots in net for the win.

The Whalers held a 33-11 advantage in shots.  Hampton Roads finished 0 for 2 on the man advantage while the Blades were 0 for 3.

Friday 4-0 WIN vs. Potomac Patriots

After a quick 4 hour break, the Whalers stifled the Potomac Patriots in game 2 on Friday, blanking their division foe 4-0.

Tyler Dienna, Jorai Bart, Arun Cibrario, and DJ Randle scored goals for the Whalers.  Cody Wilson had 2 helpers, while Jorai Bart, Ruslan Abyanov, Bryce Leger, and DJ Randle each had 1.  Newcomer Ross Jones made 13 saves in net for his 1st win and shutout as a Whaler.

The Whalers held a 22-13 advantage in shots.  Hampton Roads finished 1 for 6 on the man advantage while the Patriots were 0 for 2.

Saturday 3-2 WIN vs. Tampa Bay Juniors

After an 8-0 win over Tampa Bay in the Charlotte Showcase, the Whalers knew they’d get a much better effort from the Juniors.  The two teams went back and forth Saturday morning, as the Whalers grinded out a 3-2 win on the strength of 2 power play goals.

James Rowe, Arun Cibrario, and Cody Wilson scored goals for the Whalers.  Ruslan Abyanov had 3 assists, DJ Randle had 2, and Nate McNamara had 1.  Ricardo Alvarez made 19 saves in net for the win.

The Whalers held a 39-21 advantage in shots.  Hampton Roads finished 2 for 5 on the man advantage while the Juniors were 0 for 4.

Sunday 3-2 WIN vs. DME Swamp Rabbits

On Sunday the Whalers had another early start, again against a team in DME looking for revenge after the Whalers defeated them 8-0 in Charlotte.  The Swamp Rabbits made things interesting late, as the Whalers coughed up a 2-0 lead, but the Whalers stayed with it and pulled out the 3-2 win, the teams 10th straight.

Arun Cibrario, Jorai Bart, and Ruslan Abyanov scored goals for the Whalers.  Nate McNamara, James Rowe, DJ Randle, and Arun Cibrario each had 1 assist.  Chris Pascal made 7 saves in net for his 2nd win of the season.  Joe Polcaro was ejected for the Whalers.

The Whalers held a 44-9 advantage in shots.  Hampton Roads finished 1 for 5 on the man advantage while the Swamp Rabbits were 1 for 4.

Friday 5-2 WIN vs. Minnesota Blue Ox

The Whalers premier team took a perfect 9-0 record into the USPHL Chicago Showcase looking to keep things rolling.  On Friday they faced a determined Minnesota Blue Ox team, with the Whalers skating away with a commanding 5-2 win.

Joe DiGiulio, John Moncovich, Jaxon Rutkowski, Grant Parrish, and Oliver Freden each scored for the Whalers.  Matthew Hanchon and Brandon Osmundson had 3 helpers, while Jaxon Rutkowski had 1.  Blake Bjella made 19 saves in net for the win.

The Whalers held a 24-21 advantage in shots.  Hampton Roads finished 2 for 5 on the man advantage while the Blue Ox were 2 for 6.

Saturday 10-1 WIN vs. Motor City Hockey Club

On Saturday morning the Whalers mowed through an overmatched Motor City Hockey Club.  The Whalers held a 8-0 lead after the 1st half and cruised the rest of the way to a 10-1 win.

John Moncovich and Jaxon Rutkowski posted a pair of goals, while Conner Hunt, Oliver Freden, Brandon Osmundson, Matthew Hanchon, and Jacob Kaplan each had 1.  Brandon Osmundson posted 7 assists, John Moncovich and Conner Hunt posted 3, Brady Mistler, Oliver Freden, and Kohl Hedquist posted a pair, while Jaxon Rutkowski posted 1.  Alec Lindberg made 13 saves in net for the win.

The Whalers held a 48-14 advantage in shots.  Hampton Roads finished 3 for 6 on the man advantage while Motor City was 0 for 4.

Saturday 4-2 WIN vs. Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings

In game 3 of the weekend, the Whalers 2nd of the day on Saturday, the Whalers posted 2 goals in each half to hand the Wisconsin Rapids Riverkings a 4-2 defeat.

John Moncovich posted a pair of goals, while Max Loga and Grant Parrish each had 1.  Brandon Osmundson, Michael Volmert, Oliver Freden, and Jared Sanchez each posted 1 assist.  Blake Bjella made 25 saves in net for his 6th win of the season.

The Whalers held a 29-27 advantage in shots.  Hampton Roads finished 2 for 7 on the man advantage while the Riverkings were 0 for 4.

Sunday 3-2 WIN vs. Metro Jets

The final game of the weekend was the most anticipated match-up of the weekend against the newest member of the USPHL in the Great Lakes division, the defending NA3HL champion Metro Jets.  The Whalers carried the play for the majority of the game, but struggled to score on Jets goalie Fredrik Meurling, who made numerous grade A saves.  The Jets were able to hang around all afternoon, and close the gap to 3-2 with just over a minute to play, but in the end the Whalers came out on top 3-2.

Brandon Osmundson, Joe DiGiulio, and Brendan Borg each posted goals for the Whalers.  Conner Hunt, Jared Sanchez, and Max Loga each notched 1 helper.  Alec Lindberg made 19 saves in net for his team and league leading 7th win of the season.

The Whalers held a 33-21 advantage in shots. Both teams finished 0 for 2 on the power play.

The Whalers finish up a 14 game road trip with their 2nd and final trip of the season down I-95 to Woodbridge, VA to face off with the Potomac Patriots.
