8-0 WIN vs. DME Swamp Rabbits

The Whalers Elite team kicked off the USPHL South Charlotte Showcase with a bang, routing the DME Swamp Rabbits 8-0.

Cody Wilson and Nate McNamara each tallied 2 goals, while Jorai Bart, Joe Polcaro, Bryce Leger, and DJ Randle each notched 1.  Randle, Arun Cibrario, and Ruslan Abyanov each picked up 2 assists, while Tanner Davis, Shane Ziegler, and James Rowe each had 1.  Chris Pascal picked up his 1st career win of the season and 1st career shutout in net with 5 saves.

The Whalers held a 55-5 shot advantage while going 1 for 1 on the power play.  The Swamp Rabbits were 0 for 1 on the man advantage.

2-1 WIN vs. Florida Eels

The Whalers Elite team followed up a blow out in game one with a nail bitter in game 2.  The Whalers held a 2-0 lead after the 1st half, the Eels notched one late and made a push with the goalie pulled, but the Whalers held on for the 2-1 win.

Cody Wilson and Tanner Davis scored goals for the Whalers.  Jorai Bart, Joe Polcaro, and Ruslan Abyanov each tallied one assist.  Ricardo Alvarez made 25 saves in net for the win.

The Whalers held a 27-26 shot advantage while going 1 for 2 on the power play.  The Eels were 0 for 4 on the man advantage.

8-0 WIN vs. Tampa Bay Juniors

Game 3 of the weekend came early Sunday morning against the Tampa Bay Juniors.  The Whalers scored early and often as they cruised to a 8-0 win.

DJ Randle and Nate McNamara paced the offense with 2 goals each, while Tanner Davis, Joe Polcaro, Ruslan Abyanov, and Tyler Dienna each had 1.  Cody Wilson had 2 helpers while James Rowe, Jorai Bart, Cameron Sylvester, Liam Smiley, Matt Scicchitano, Ruslan Abyanov, Joe Polcaro, Kyle Ball, Shane Ziegler, Arun Cibrario, and DJ Randle each had 1.  Ricardo Alvarez picked up his 4th win of the season and 1st career shutout in net with 10 saves.

The Whalers held a 41-10 shot advantage while going 3 for 8 on the power play.  The Juniors were 0 for 5 on the man advantage.

2-1 WIN vs. Atlanta Kings

The Whalers Elite team finished the weekend with a strong effort in a physical game against the Atlanta Kings, as they tallied a 2-0 lead through the 1st half, then held on, only surrendering one goal with 35 seconds left, and held on for their 6th win in a row and showcase sweep.

Cody Wilson and Ruslan Abyanov scored goals for the Whalers.  Jorai Bart had 2 assists, while James Roe and Cameron Sylvester each tallied 1 assist.  Brandon Maio made 25 saves in net for the win.

Both teams fired 26 shots on net. The Whalers went 1 for 4 on the power play.  The Kings were 0 for 3 on the man advantage.

7-2 WIN vs. DME Swamp Rabbits

The Whalers Premier team came into the showcase weekend undefeated and would face the DME Swamp Rabbits who were undefeated in the Florida division.  After a game 1 defeat at the hands of the Charlotte Rush, the Swamp Rabbits didn’t find things any easier against the defending champion Whalers, as the boys in blue and green rolled over the Swamp Rabbits 7-2.

Joe DiGiulio, Grant Parrish, Jaxon Rutkowski, John Moncovich, Brandon Osmundson, Jared Sanchez, and Max Loga each found the back of the net for the Whalers.  Brandon Osmundson had 3 assists, while Max Loga and John Moncovich each had 1.  Alec Lindberg got the win in net with 25 saves.

The Whalers held a 32-26 shot advantage.  Hampton Roads went 2 for 6 on the power play while DME was 0 for 2.

4-3 WIN vs. Florida Eels

The Whalers Premier welcomed an old foe in game 2, as they faced the Florida Eels on Saturday.  Despite building a 4-1 lead, the pesky Eels kept things close and made it a game late with 2 quick goals, but the Whalers held on for the 4-3 win.

John Moncovich potted 2 goals while Conner Hunt and Jared Sanchez each posted 1.  Jaxon Rutkowski, Max Loga, and Brandon Osmundson posted 1 assist each.  Blake Bjella picked up the win in net with 25 saves.

The Whalers held a 29-28 shot advantage.  Hampton Roads went 1 for 3 on the power play while Florida was 1 for 2.

7-0 WIN vs. Tampa Bay Juniors

The 3rd game of the weekend brought on the usually tough Tampa Bay Juniors squad, but the Juniors were no match for the Whalers, as they cruised past Tampa 7- 0 Sunday morning.

John Moncovich and Joe DiGiulio each potted 2 goals while Matthew Hanchon, Jaxon Rutkowski, and Brandon Osmundson each posted 1.  Max Loga, Jared Sanchez, and Jaxon Rutkowski each had 2 helpers, while Brady Mistler, Oliver Freden, Brandon Osmundson, and Conner Hunt each had 1.  Blake Bjella picked up the win and shutout in net with 10 saves.

The Whalers held a 29-10 shot advantage.  Hampton Roads went 1 for 5 on the power play while Tampa was 0 for 2.

2-0 WIN vs. Atlanta Kings

The final game of the weekend came after a quick 4 hour break from the morning game, as the Whalers faced a stingy Atlanta Kings team.  The Whalers scored once in each half and grinded out their 2nd consecutive shutout with a 2-0 win to sweep the weekend and remain undefeated.

Conner Hunt and John Moncovich continued their hot starts to the season with a goal apiece.  Captain Brandon Osmundson posted 2 assists while Jaxon Rutkowski finished off a 4 point weekend with another assist.  Alec Lindberg picked up the win and shutout in net with 25 saves.

The Whalers held a 27-25 shot advantage.  Hampton Roads went 0 for 2 on the power play while Atlanta was didn’t have a power play.

What's on Tap?

The Whalers will get a well-deserved week off before heading to Chicago on October 11th for the USPHL Chicago Showcase.  At 9-0-0, the Whalers Premier team sits atop the USPHL Southeast Premier division, 4 points ahead of 2nd place Charlotte.  Likewise, the Whalers Elite team sits atop the Elite Southeast division at 8-2-0, 2 points ahead of 2nd place Richmond.
