Saturday Elite 3-0 WIN

On Saturday night the Whalers and Generals met for the first time this season as the I-64 rivalry was renewed.  The Whalers started fast in this game and used special teams and lock down defense to pick up the victory.  The Whalers scored 2 power play goals in the opening period and notched a third in the 3rd period to help propel the team to a 3-0 win.

Gary Eastlack, Jacob Kaplan, and Ryan Lorenz scored for the Whalers.  East tallied 2 assists, while James Rowe, Ryan Lorenz, Adam Campbell, and Caelan Bolanowski each had 1.  Everett Yasinski made 23 saves in goal for the win and his 5th shutout of the season in net.

The Whalers held a 32-23 advantage in shots.  Hampton Roads went 3 for 5 on the power play while the Generals were 0 for 3.

Saturday Premier 3-2 Loss

After a critical 2 game sweep of the Carolina Eagles last weekend, the Whalers Premier team had a let down on Saturday night against rival Richmond.  Two costly turnovers led to two Generals goals in the opening period, the Whalers countered with one and trailed 2-1 after 20.  The second period came and went with a whimper, as the Whalers only managed 4 shots on net and the score would remain 2-1 after 40.  In the final frame, Richmond would extend the lead halfway through the frame to 3-1 in which the Whalers quickly answer with a shorthanded marker, but that was all she wrote, and the Generals escaped with the 3-2 win.

Brandon Osmundson and Max Loga scored for the Whalers.  Conner Hunt and Adam Toor picked up the assists.  Sean Dickson made 17 saves in net in a losing effort.

The Whalers held a 24-20 shot on goal advantage.  Hampton Roads went 0 for 4 on the power play while Richmond was 1 for 4.  Hayden Knight was ejected for the Whalers.

Sunday Elite 3-2 WIN

On Sunday, the Whalers and Generals continued their back and forth battles.  The two teams played a scoreless opening period, before the Whalers unleashed a 20 shot barrage in the middle period, striking twice to the Generals one goal, taking a 2-1 lead into the 3rd period.  In the final frame, Richmond would turn the tide, as they ripped off 21 shots in the 3rd period and were able to tie the game at 2-2 with just 6:33 to play to send the game into overtime.  The final period would not solve things, as the teams would head to a best of 3 shootout to decide the game.  After a Ryan Lorenz miss and a Dylan Brink score for Richmond, Gary Eastlack and Ty Brandt would find the back of the net while Jason Horn locked it down in net as the Whalers picked up the 3-2 win and weekend sweep.

Tyler Dienna and Adam Campbell scored for the Whalers in regulation.  Jacob Kaplan, Adam Campbell, Gary Eastlack, and Charles DuBose each tallied 1 assist for the Whalers.  Jason Horn made 38 saves in net for the Whalers to pick up the win.

The Whalers held a 41-40 shot on goal advantage.  Hampton Roads finished 1 for 4 on the power play while Richmond was 1 for 5.

Sunday Premier 4-1 WIN

On Sunday, the Generals would face a pissed off Whalers team.  The Whalers came out with much more energy and turned that into 3 first period goals to take a 3-0 lead into the locker room.  In the middle frame, the Generals would cut the lead to 3-1 after 40.  In the final period, the Whalers struck just over 5 minutes in the period and held serve the rest of the way for the 4-1 win and weekend split.

Kirill Romanov picked up his first goal as a Whaler, while Adam Toor, Brandon Osmundson, and Jared Sanchez also scored.  Brandon Osmundson, Jonas Edwards, Adam Toor, and Conner Hunt each notched 1 assist.  Alec Lindberg picked up his 3rd win of the season in net with 26 saves.

The Whalers held a 38-27 advantage in shots.  Hampton Roads went 0 for 5 on the power play while the Generals were 0 for 4.
