Whalers Captain Brendon Zack Commits to Buffalo State

“Brendon has been a big part of the Hampton Roads Whalers culture and success, having won the USPHL Championship last year and being the captain on this year's title defending squad”, stated Whalers GM Patrick Cavanagh. “I am excited that he will attend Buffalo State's prestigious program where I know he will excel under coaches Murphy and Therian. I expect the Bengal fans will soon learn what we already know, Brandon Zack is a winner.”  

The Hampton Roads Jr. Whalers are proud to announce that 1996 defenseman and Elite team captain Brendon Zack from Sarvar, PA has committed to playing NCAA hockey next season for the Buffalo State College Bengals.

The 6’0, 185lbs veteran defenseman has tallied 47 points in 47 games on 17 goals and 30 assists this season for the Whalers, including 6 power play goals, 11 power play assists, 5 game winning goals and 40 penalty minutes, good for 7th on the team and 1st among defenseman in scoring.  In 2 seasons with the Whalers, Zack has tallied 83 points in 91 career games on 25 goals and 58 assists, including 10 power play goals, 19 power play assists, 1 shorthanded goal, 6 game winning goals, and 64 penalty minutes. Zack was named as a USPHL Elite All-Star both season’s, he also finished runner-up for USPHL defenseman of the year last season while helping lead the Whalers to the USPHL Elite championship.

 “Brendon is a solid defenseman with a wicked shot,” stated Elite head coach Rod Taylor.  “He has always been an offensive threat to the opposition being one of the league’s top scoring defenseman.  He has a strong hockey sense and a never say die attitude.  Brendon is a player with heart and it shows on and off the ice, he is the type of player that every coach wants and enjoys coaching.  For me it has been an honor to coach someone of Brendon's character, he exemplifies what Whaler Nation is all about, Commitment, Character and just good old fashioned nose to the grindstone hard work.  I wish Brendan all the best at Buffalo State!”

Buffalo State College is located in Buffalo, NY and competes in the NCAA SUNYAC conference.

Zack becomes the 5th Whaler to advance his career this season, joining Vaden McManus (Utica College), Liam Walsh (Stevenson University), Brandon Osmundson (Corpus Christi NAHL), and John Moncovich (Corpus Christi NAHL). Brendon will follow in the footsteps of former Whaler Ryan Salkeld on the Bengals roster.  The Whalers look forward to announcing more commitments in the coming weeks.
