MET South Whalers Down Eagles

Leap Frog them into 5th place

Game One- 3-2 Final S.O.

The Hampton Roads Whalers came into a crucial 2 game weekend against the East Coast Eagles with one thing in mind, 2 wins.  The Eagles lead the Whalers by one point in the MET South standings as the two teams battle it out for the final 2 playoff spots.  The Eagles would get in the board first early in the 1st period only :17 seconds in when Joey Labonte put the Eagles up 1-0.  The Whalers would tie it up in the 2nd at 1-1 when Euard Smirnov picked up an unassisted tally at 11:50.  In the 3rd the Whalers took a 2-1 lead on the power play when Chris Radague converted from Rick Loveless and Kellan Lessard.  The Eagles would tie it up with only 2:21 to play when Chase Harris drove the net and the puck found its way past Dylan Snyder.  After a scoreless OT the two teams went to a shoot out.  Chris Radague and Cody Pessig would score for the Whalers and Synder would stop all 4 ECE attempts to seal the 3-2 win.  Synder made 24 saves in goal.

Game Two- 8-4 Final

Game two of the weekend was a tightly played contest until the Whalers blew it wide open in the 3rd.  Once again the Eagles jumped ahead early only :34 seconds into the game to lead 1-0.  At 9:29 Chris Radague would tie things up at 1-1 from Mat Culcasi and Cody Pessig.  At 11:50 the Eagles regained the lead 2-1.  At 13:52 the Whalers would tie things up 2-2 when Chris Miracle scored from Chris Neff and Cody Pessig.  With only :42 ticks left in the 1st Mike Swiderski gave the Whalers a 3-2 lead from Lee Jenkins and Marc Adams.  In the 2nd period the Eagles had the lone goal at 7:42 to knot things up at 3-3 heading into the final period.  3:04 into the 3rd Radague picked up his second of the game from Mat Culcasi and Cosy Pessig to make it 4-3.  Kellan Lessard would extend the lead at 4:08 from Lee Jenkins but at 6:24 the Eagles would bring the game back within one at 5-4.  20 Seconds later Euard Smirnov scored from Dylan Woods to make it 6-4 Whalers.  The boys would seal the deal with a pair of late powerplay goals.  First it was Casey Moneer from Rick Loveless at 11:08 then it was Smirnov with his second of the game at 14:49 from Chris Neff and Chris Miracle.  Justin Lindgren picked up the win in goal with 30 saves.
