The Hampton Roads Jr. Whalers are proud to announce that 1998 forward Matthew Hanchon has been named USP3 Offensive Player of the Week for his performance this past weekend in a sweep over the Potomac Patriots.

Hanchon notched a total of 13 points on the weekend and finished with a team best +13 +/- differential this weekend.  On Saturday, Hanchon tallied 1 goal and 3 assists, including 2 power play helpers in a 12-0 win, then followed up on Sunday with a 1 goal and 8 assist performance in a 13-0 shutout win.  The 2016-17 USP3 All-Star has tallied 19 goals and 37 assists for 56 points in 42 games for the Whalers this season, including 6 power play goals, 13 power play assists, 2 shorthanded goals, and 3 game winning goals.  Hanchon’s 56 points ranks him 2nd on the team while his 13 power play assists lead the team and rank 6th in the league.

Hanchon is the 2nd USP3 player to garner USP3 player of the week honors this season, joining captain Gary Eastlack, who took home the honor back in September.
