With 8 games left in the regular season and an eye on a long playoff run, the Whalers have made two moves to add depth to the line-up prior to the January 22nd USPHL trade deadline.

First, the Whalers Elite team has added 1996 forward Tyler Besner (Winnipeg, MB).  The 5’10, 180lbs Besner comes to the Whalers from the Charlotte Rush where he was 3rd on the team in scoring with 12 goals and 29 assists for 41 points in 35 games.  Besner is a 2 year junior vet who has tallied 100 points over 90 career games between the Carolina Eagles and the Charlotte Rush.  He’s also posted 10 points in 13 career playoff games.  “We are very excited for Tyler to come to Hampton Roads”, stated head coach Rod Taylor.  “He will bring a lot of grit and intensity to the line-up and were excited to add a player of his caliber to our line-up”.  Besner will join the team prior to their January 20th game against Richmond and will wear #23.

Second, the Whalers USP3 team has acquired 1996 forward Robert Brown (Anchorage, AK) from the Kalkaska Rhinos of the USP3 Mid-West division. The 6’2, 200lbs Brown was 4th on the Rhinos in scoring with 5 goals and 9 assists for 14 points in 23 games. Brown, in his 2nd junior season, has accumulated 21 points over 58 career games between the Richmond Generals, Daytona Racers, and Kalkaska Rhinos. “Brown will add some depth for us up front and provide us with some more size and grit in the line-up”, stated head coach Brad Jones.  Brown will join the team prior to their January 20th game against Richmond and will wear #7.
