MET South Splits with Tampa Bay

The Hampton Roads Whalers MET-South Jr. B team welcomed the Tampa Bay Juniors to town this past weekend for two exciting games.  In game one of the weekend, the Whalers struck first when Cody Pessig put the Whalers up 1-0 from Chris Radague and Dylan Woods.  In the 2nd period Eduard Smirnov connected for his first goal as a Whalers from Jamie Lasher and Casey Moneer.  The Juniors pulled within one late in the 2nd.  In the 3rd period Tampa Bay connected for 2 goals 30 seconds apart to take a 3-2 lead with 4:14 remaining.  The Whalers tied it up with :44 seconds remaining when Smirnov connected for his 2nd of the night from Jamie Lasher and Matt Gross.  The two teams went back and forth in the shootout and in the 10th round John Davies scored for the Whalers to give them a 4-3 victory.  Whalers outshot Tampa Bay 35-30.  Dylan Snyder picked up the win in net with 32 saves.

In game two of the weekend Tampa Bay came out on fire scoring 3 quick goals and chasing Whaler goaltender Justin MacMillan from the net.  Justin Lindgren came in relief of MacMillen and stopped 23 stops but it wasn't enough as the Junior ran away with a 5-2 win and a weekend split.  Whaler goals were scored by Nathan James from Chris Miracle, Dylan Woods and John Davies from Eduard Smirnov.

Whaler Notes:  The Whalers MET South team has traded forward Pavel Chechnev to the Florida Eels.  The Whalers MET South team has signed forward Eduard Smirnov.  Smirnov picked up 2 goals and 1 assist in his first weekend with the Whalers.
