PeeWee AA Team Sweeps At Home!

   After a long week with no practice and no ice time, the PeeWee AA Team had the Ashburn 99s and Metro Maple Leafs stop in for two league games at the Ponds.

   The Whalers entered this weekend with a 0-3 record in league play. Needing two wins to get back in the race for a playoff spot the PeeWee AA got the brooms out for a sweep at home to improve their record to 2-3 in the CBHL.

   On Saturday the Whalers took on the Asburn 99s.In the 1st period Austin Webb got the Whale going with a goal (assist Brandon Osmundson) with 13 seconds remaining giving the Whalers a 1-0 lead. Asburn answered back with a short handed goal (9:18) in the 2nd period to tie the game 1-1. Ten seconds later Carter Long would get his first goal (assist Brandon Osmundson) of the game on a one timer to put the Whale up 2-1. Ashburn tied the game 2-2 (7:09). Carter Long put the Whale up 3-2 on a breakaway with 1 second remaining in the 2nd period. In the 3rd period the Whalers took a two goal lead with his 3rd goal (unassisted) of the game by Carter Long for a hat trick. With 5 minutes remaining in the game the Whalers put this one away with a goal (unassisted) from Adam Campbell, makeing it 5-2 Whalers. Asburn would get one (4:55) to draw within 2,but not enough as the Whalers went into shut down mode keeping Asburn in their end of the ice for the remainder of the game. Whalers win 5-3.!  Britt League and Nick Phillips shared duties in net for the Whale. The Whalers were outshot 34-30.

   On Sunday , the Metro Maple Leafs were in town for a early morning game. Metro got on the scoreboard 1st (13:22) for a 1-0 lead. The Whalers answered back at the 10:43 mark with a goal by Austin Webb (assist Brandon Osmundson, Hunter Smith) to tie the game 1-1. Austin Webb would get his 2nd goal (assist Brandon Osmundson) at the 6:04 mark in the 1st period to make it 2-1 Whalers. The Leafs tied the game at 2-2 with 3:58 remaining in the period. The period would end all tied 2-2. In the 2nd period Carter Long got things going with a goal (assist Brandon Osmundson) to put the Whale back on top 3-2. That would be the only scoring of the period . The 3rd period started the same for the Whale, Hunter Smth found the back of the net for his first goal (assist Brandon Osmundson, Carter Long) of the game to take a two goal lead 4-2. The Whalers would then go up by three on a goal from Brenden McQueeney (assist Adam Campbell) to make it 5-3 Whalers. Five was enough as Metro made things interesting with 2 unanswered goals. The last goal coming with 54 seconds on the clock. The Whalers held on to win 5-4, giving the Whalers two big wins at home. The Whalers outshot the Leafs 25-14 for the game. 

   Next weekend the Reston Raiders are in town for two games against the Whale at Chilled Ponds. Puck drops Saturday at 1:30pm and Sunday at 7:00am.
