Game 1:

The Jr. Whalers started out in the hole in game one of the weekend, falling behind 2-0 after one period of play to the Florida Eels as Justin Boyd connected for the Eels first two goals.  In the 2nd period the Jr. Whalers rallied behind a loud and rowdy crowd at the Chilled Ponds and came out flying, scoring 5 unanswered goals in the middle frame to take a 5-1 lead into the 3rd.  At 5:52 Pavel Chechnev connected on a power play goal from Chris Miracle.  Mat Culcasi followed at 10:28 with another power play marker from Dylan Woods then it was Lee Jenkins on the power play unassisted at 11:51.  At 13:33 Chris Radague found the back of the net from Chris Miracle then Casey Moneer pick up an unassisted tally at 15:43.  In the 3rd period Jon Jordan scored for the Eels at 19:26 but it was all the offense the Eels could find as the Jr. Whalers escaped with a 5-3 victory.  Justin MacMillan picked up the victory in net with 16 saves.

Game 2:

In game 2 the Jr. Whalers jumped out to a 2-1 lead after 1 period of play. Ken Coffelletto connected for the Eels at 17:18 to give the boys from Florida a 1-0 lead.  The Whalers goals were scored by Pavel Chechnev assisted by Casey Moneer at 6:22 and Lee Jenkins from Moneer and Dylan Woods at 10:37 on the power play.  In the 2nd stanza the Jr. Whalers picked up two more goals, first it was Nathan James from Marc Adams and Chris Radague at 14:19 then Casey Moneer from Matt Gross and Pavel Chechnev at 15:03.  The Eels countered with a marker at 5:46 by John Schwarz and Jr. Whalers escaped the 2nd period with a 4-2 lead.  In the 3rd period the Whalers again outscored the Eels 2-1 as Cody Pessig at 1:31 from Rick Loveless and Nathan James then Lee Jenkins from Matt Gross and Casey Moneer at 16:54 connected for the Whalers.  Justin Boyd scored at 17:42 for the Eels.  The Jr. Whalers took the win 6-3 to complete the 2-0 weekend.  Justin MacMillan picked up his second win of the weekend in goal with 16 saves.  The Whalers out shot the Eels 46-19.

 

SEJHL Recap

Game 1:

In game 1 of the weekend series the SEJHL Jr. Whalers won in dominating fashion.  The Jr. Whalers jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the 1st period.  Boris Knyazev got the Whalers scoring onslaught started with a power play goal at 7:05 from Nathan Kanter and Michael Addison.  At 6:52 Nathan Kanter buried the first of his three goals from Boris Knyazev.  At 2:34 Kanter picked up his second from Sebastian Holman.  In the 2nd period the Jr. Whalers power play struck again at 15:07 it was Jacob Whitley from Nathan Kleinknight to give the Whalers a 4-0 lead.  The Eels cut the deficit to three with a power play goal at 12:50 by Matt Czaster.  The Jr. Whalers continued the goal scoring parade, this time it was Taylor Paasch on the power play at 6:49 from Luke Carroll and Michael Addison.  Paasch converted again at 3:20 to give the Jr. Whalers a 6-1 lead from Jacob Whitley and Jeremy Wilson.  Wilson then picked up his first goal of the night at 2:34 from Michael Addison and Taylor Paasch.  Nathan Kanter would end the 2nd period at 1:44 when he picked up his hat trick goal from Boris Knyazev.  In the 3rd period the Whalers added one more goal, this one from Sebastian Holman assited by Boris Knyazev and Nathan Kanter to complete the 9-1 victory.  Josh Varvil was stellar in net for the Whalers, turning aside 36 of the Florida Eels 37 shots for his first junior victory. 

Game 2:

In game 2 of the weekend penalties were the name of the game as the two teams combined for a total of 19 infractions for 55 PIMS.  The Jr. Whalers once again jumped out to the lead after one period of play.  At 10:43 Eric Masters got the Whalers rolling with an unassited tally.  Jeremy Wilson followed up with a goal at 7:13 from Jacob Whitley to give the Jr. Whalers a 2-0 lead.  The Eels cut the lead to 2-1 at 1:04 on the power play when Matt Czaster connected on an unassisted goal.  The Jr. Whaler responded 17 seconds later when Michael Addison connected on the power play from Nathan Kanter to end the period 3-1 in favor of the Jr. Whalers.  Jeremy Wilson extended the Whalers lead to 4-1 in the 2nd period at 15:37 on another Whaler power play goal from Nathan Kanter.  Florida cut the lead to 4-3 halfway through the 2nd period, first it was Jacob LaFontaine shorthanded at 15:08 then Nathan Leonard at 7:51 for the Eels.  Taylor Paasch would give the Whalers a 5-3 lead at 5:41 of the 2nd with an unassited tally.  Blake Scott picked up his first junior win in goal with 30 saves.
