The Whalers faced off this morning against the Carolina Storm U16A White team.

The teams stayed fairly even through the first period with the Whalers finishing the first seventeen minutes of play with a 3-2 lead.  This came after the Storm put in two goals, the first of which was only 1:03 into the game.  The Whalers regrouped and answered the call with three goals of their own.  The first at 5:09 from Roman Degnan, the second eleven seconds later from Jonathon Jones and the third came in at 1:52 and was Degnan’s second goal of the game.  Assists were had from Joey Tarantino, Caleb Jimenez, Alphee’ Herion (2) and Jonathon Jones.

In the second period, the Whalers added to their lead as Jimenez scored from Nico Degnan and Timmy Zaremski.  Unfortunately, the Whalers could not hold on to this lead as the Storm scored three goals (one power play and two even strength) in the final two minutes of the period.

The third period saw the Whalers get into penalty trouble and the Storm was able to take advantage of their man-up situation and scored a power play goal at 9:01.  The Whalers answered this with a power play goal of their own as Ben Trainer scored from Roman Degnan and Tarantino.  As the penalties mounted for the Whalers, the Storm scored an empty netter at the end of the game.  Final score for this match had the Whalers losing 5-7 with the Storm also edging out the Whalers in shots 24-27.  In net for the Whalers was Trevor Davis stopping 20 of the Storm’s shots.

For the Whalers, Grant Phillips was missing from the action.  Joey Tarantino and Caleb Jimenez will be sidelined for the next game due to game misconducts.
