The Hampton Roads Jr. Whalers, proud members of the USPHL, are excited to announce the addition of Chris Hille as the new Assistant Coach of our Elite team.  He will join Premier Head Coach Colten Teubert and Elite Head Coach CJ Sweigart to form our coaching staff for the 2024-2025 USPHL season.

Hille, from Hampton, Virginia, comes to the Whalers from the University of Central Oklahoma Bronchos ACHA D1 team where he served as assistant coach.   UCO made it to the Final 4 at the 2024 National Tournament.  Prior to being on the bench with UCO, Chris served as Head Coach and Assistant GM of the Oklahoma City Ice Hawks and Mid Cities Jr Stars of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL).

“It is a huge honor to have the opportunity to coach and grow the game of hockey within Whaler Nation and the Hampton Roads region,” stated Hille. “I am excited to return home and get started.”

As a player, Chris played locally growing up in Hampton Roads before playing AAA for the Richmond Generals. He went on to play for Williston State College in Williston, ND for three seasons, serving as team Captain for two seasons, before transferring to Central Oklahoma for his final two seasons, once again serving as team Captain in his fifth and final year.

"We are beyond excited to add Chris Hille to our coaching staff for the 2024-25 season", stated Whalers GM Brad Jones.  "As a Hampton Roads native, Chris brings an extra passion and motivation for the growth and success of our program and players at both the youth and junior levels.  Both his work ethic and coaching philosophies align perfectly with both Colten and CJ.  He will be a fantastic addition to our program.”

In addition to joining our junior coaching staff, Chris will take over as lead instructor for the Adult Development Program at Chilled Ponds Chesapeake as well as serve in an oversight role of player development for our Chilled Ponds Yorktown Rec and Learn to Play players.

Chris begins work immediately on the recruiting trail with Colten and CJ and will complete his move back to Hampton Roads in early June.
