The Hampton Roads Jr. Whalers, proud members of the USPHL, are excited to announce the addition of Lukas Voglrieder (Fowlerville, MI) as the new assistant coach of the Whalers Elite team for the 2023-2024 season.

“I want to thank the Hampton Roads Whalers for an opportunity to teach and develop good kids into good young men who are making their next steps in their hockey career as well as life", stated Voglrieder.  "It is an exciting opportunity to work with Coach (Colten) Teubert and Coach (CJ) Sweigart.  I hope to support and learn from them as much as possible while bringing high energy into the rink to make it a positive and energetic experience.”

Voglrieder spent the last 4 seasons with Howell High School (MI) Hockey.  Last season Voglrieder served as Associate Head Coach for the Varsity.  As Associate Head Coach, Voglrieder was critically involved in all aspects of the program sharing responsibilities with the Program Director in key areas such as coordination of play, coaching tactics/strategies, and budget management.  Additionally, Voglrieder took on the responsibility of practice planning, equipment purchase/inventory, and player development.

Prior to his promotion, Voglrieder served 3 years as Head Coach for the Howell JV Hockey Team & Assistant Skills Coach for the Varsity.  Coach Voglrieder's elevation was a testament to his hard work, hockey IQ, & how he conducts himself with integrity. Over the last 3 summers, Voglrieder also served as an evaluator for USA Hockey's Michigan Amateur Hockey Association (MAHA) Select Camp for '09, '08, and '06 age groups,  Coach/Mentor with TPH Detroit, Michigan Hockey Advancement 16U Assistant Coach, Northville High School summer program instructor,  and Islander Hockey Club NCDC Main Camp evaluator in 2020, 2021, and 2022.

"Lukas came highly recommended to us by a good friend of mine in the NCDC", stated Whalers General Manager Brad Jones. "We were looking to add a coach to our group that was young, hungry, and eager to grow and develop.  We are thrilled to welcome Lukas to the Whalers family and look forward to getting him to town and ready to go for the 2023-24 USPHL season, he will be a great compliment to both CJ and Colten."

As a player, Voglrieder played AAA for the Detroit Falcons 16U and captained the Michigan Warriors AAA 16U before moving on to playing 3 years of junior hockey with the USPHL's Traverse City Hounds, Traverse City Northstar's, and Detroit Fighting Irish. Voglrieder finished up his playing career with Oakland University (ACHA) before starting his coaching career.

"Lukas has proven his work ethic and commitment to development with TPH and various other areas of Michigan Youth Hockey, including all of their state development camps", stated Elite Head Coach CJ Sweigart.  "He is close with players I have coached in the past as well, who are thriving at the next level, which gives me a lot of confidence in his ability to step in and know what was demanded of those players and execute those details".

“ The addition of Lukas Voglrieder completes our Whaler Nation Coaching staff", stated Premier Head Coach Colten Teubert. "We are excited to have a young and hungry Coach, who is willing to do whatever it takes to help and develop our athletes from the youth level to juniors. Can’t wait to get him settled and started at Chilled Ponds".
