As we get closer to the start of the 23-24 season, we are running a 9 part Season Preview series to highlight the 9 Hampton Roads Whalers Travel Teams and the upcoming 2023-2024 hockey season.  This week, we continue with part 3 of the series and the U12 Lower A team.

Is it September yet?? Because the U12 Lower A team cannot wait to get back out on the ice! After coming together for a fantastic showing at the CCM Showcase in May after only 2 weeks together as a team, the kids and coaches are ready to see where the ‘23/‘24 season will take them!

The upcoming season promises to be an exciting one for the Whalers. As they take to the ice, these young athletes will face a series of challenging matchups against other competitive teams in the CBHL’s U12 Lower “A” division. The games will test their skills, endurance, and ability to work together as a cohesive unit.

Guided by coaches Justin Wakeman and Eric Henzler, the team will spend the season working on building upon the players’ hockey foundation to develop smart, agile players. Both coaches bring a great amount of leadership experience to the table, both on and off the ice.  “I’m eager to kick off the 23/24 season with some returning players and look forward to meeting those players joining the team. I’m really excited to see where this upcoming season takes us” said Head Coach Justin Wakeman.

Returning to the Whalers this 23/24 season are Hunter Wakeman, Angelina Compton, Colin Harpster, David Hixon, Melia Allread, Oakley Daniels, Riley Weidner, Rory Baker, and Ryder Beldon. Joining the Whalers are Reed Steinmetz, Mason Blau, Gavin Henzler, Ethan Schiffer, and Declan Virts. The team is also hoping to welcome a full time goalie into the Whalers family to complete this team of dedicated young athletes.

Off the ice, the Whalers will establish a strong sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship. With that, the players will quickly understand the importance of supporting one another and working as a team, both during games and in their daily interactions. This unity will undoubtedly contribute to their success on the ice.

Support from the community will play a crucial role in the team's journey throughout the season. Whether it's the enthusiastic cheers from the stands or the unwavering encouragement from friends and family, the Whalers will draw strength from the support of those around them.

We look forward to welcoming and harnessing the support and energy of the Whalers community to help these athletes achieve their goals over the next season. Can’t wait to see you all in the stands!
