Whalers Alumni Brandon Osmundson Turns Pro

The Hampton Roads Junior Whalers are proud to announce that 1998 alumni forward Brandon Osmundson has signed a contract with the Knoxville Ice Bears of the SPHL and will turn Pro.

Osmundson, 24, joins the Ice Bears after completing his fourth season of collegiate hockey at Utica College (NCAA-III). This season, the Chesapeake, VA native posted 25 points in 29 games with the Pioneers (8g, 17a).  In 2019-20, Osmundson put together his best season corralling 42 points (13g, 29a) in 29 games on the way to being named USCHO NCAA D3 Rookie of the Year. 

Osmundson leaves Utica sitting 4th all time in program history with 118 career points and 3rd all time in program history with 81 assists.

Brandon grew up playing travel hockey with the Whalers.  After 3 seasons with the Whalers junior team he was tendered by the Corpus Christi Icerays of the NAHL.  Oz played in 8 games for the Rays before being sent to Odessa where he played another 5 before deciding to return to the Jr. Whalers.  Brandon went on to play 2 additional seasons with the Whalers as the Captain of the Premier team, leading the Whalers to two USPHL National Championships.  

All told, Osmundson played in 239 career games over 5 seasons with the Whalers, 2 with the Elite team and 3 with the Premier team, producing a combined 140 goals, 274 assists, and 414 points.  He ranks 1st all time in points at the Premier level, 6th at Elite, while ranking 2nd all time in goals with Premier, and 1st all time in assist with Premier and 5th with Elite.

Osmundson joins his fellow Whalers Alumni and Utica teammates Regen Cavanagh (Norfolk- ECHL) and John Moncovich (Fayetteville- SPHL) in turning pro this season.

Osmundson will join the Ice Bears in time for their game on Saturday April 1st against the Evansville Thunderbolts on the road in Evansville at 7pm CDT.
