The Hampton Roads Jr. Whalers, proud members of the USPHL, are excited to announce the addition of CJ Sweigart as the new Head Coach of our Elite team and Assistant Coach of the Premier team.  He will join Premier Head Coach Colten Teubert and Elite Assistant Coach Jeff Morgan to form our coaching staff for the 2023-2024 season.

Sweigart comes to the Whalers from the Colorado Springs Tigers (NAPHL) U16 AAA team where he served as head coach.  He has previously coached the Yellowstone Quake (NA3HL) where he served as head coach & GM.  He was also an assistant coach and skills coach with the Lone Star Brahmas (NA3) and Texas Brahmas (NAHL) where he helped the Brahmas to a 34-5-1 regular season record, a South Division Regular Season, Playoff Championship and birth the Fraser Cup.

“I am excited to join an organization with such a proven track record in player advancement", stated Sweigart.  "After speaking with Brad Jones and Colton Teubert I can see that they are determined to develop players for the next level and win hockey games, offering a quality product of Junior Hockey to players and families. I look forward to the opportunity to work alongside this decorated staff and help continue the growth and tradition of this organization.”

A Level 5 USA Hockey Certified Coach and East Coast native, CJ is excited to return to the state of Virginia where he grew up and played his youth hockey for the Washington Little Capitals and Ashburn Xtreme before his matriculation to Junior Hockey with the Washington Lil Caps (MJHL) and the Bay State Breakers (EJHL) in Massachusetts.

CJ currently resides in Superior, CO with his wife Becca and their dog.

"We are beyond excited to add CJ to our coaching staff for the 2023-24 season", stated Whalers GM Brad Jones.  "CJ has a track record of recruiting and developing players and we look forward to him bringing his experience to Hampton Roads.  He is a very detailed and structured coach, whose work ethic and philosophies will greatly benefit our players and program".

"I'm super excited to have Coach CJ join our staff", stated Premier Head Coach Colten Teubert.  "He brings quality coaching experience and a great knowledge of the game.  CJ's skill set in power skating and youth development will help fill a void that Hampton Roads hockey players should all be excited about.  Welcome to the 757 CJ!"
