Chesapeake will always be a second home for Kohl, we all look forward to watching him on the next step of his journey at Gustavus Adolphus”.
The Hampton Roads Jr. Whalers are proud to announce that 1999 forward Kohl Hedquist from Tempe, AZ has committed to playing college hockey in 2020 for Gustavus Adolphus College.

"I am extremely thankful and blessed to be given an opportunity by the Whalers and become part of the tradition and culture they hold in my last 2 years", stated Hedquist. "Thank you to Mr. Cavanaugh, Coach Taylor, Coach Gatto, Coach Rodriguez, Coach Jones and the staff for getting the most out of me every day. Thank you to my support group and family back home along with the 18-19 national championship group and a 19-20 team who deserved one as well. Two teams who I will never forget being part of. I couldn't of grown on and off the ice without any of you. Thank you to my billets, the Lacroix family, and my roommate Thomas McGuire, for their endless support from day 1 and countless memories. From the coaches to the players, they will always be family and it was an honor to be part of something so special. I am excited to get things going at Gustavus next year and be a Gustie where I can keep playing hockey for a great program and further my education".
“Kohl is the true meaning of team player”, stated head coach Greg Gatto. “He was a great leader on and off the ice and helped develop carry and pass on our culture for the next wave of Whalers. Heddy has sneaky skill that can play anywhere in the line up and he truly excelled in the face-off circle and blocking shots. Gustavus is getting big time character player and a champion”.
Gustavus Adolphus is located in St. Peter, MN and competes in the NCAA’s division 3 Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC).
Hedquist is the 11th Whaler committed from the 2019-20 season joining Dominic Loubert (Adrian College), Daniel McGeever (New England College), Jacob Kaplan (Morrisville), Chris Mott (Morrisville), Joe DiGiulio (Neumann), Thomas McGuire (Neumann), Brady Mistler (Meumann), Bobby Brouwer (UNC Wilmington), Connall Muldoon (Western Washington), and Cameron Knowlton (Lawrence Tech).
