“Smoke’n Joe DiGulio is a two time Whalers National Champion, some would say he would have been the first 3 time National Champion this season", stated Whalers Owner Patrick Cavanagh. "Joe represented Whaler Nation in every way, he worked hard on and off the ice, has an incredible perseverance, a desire to overcome and win. Coach Mountain has just made his team at Neumann University a better team, I look forward to watching Joe progress in his Journey, he will always have a home at Chilled Ponds".

The Hampton Roads Jr. Whalers are proud to announce that 1999 forward Joe DiGiulio from San Jose, CA has committed to playing college hockey in 2020 for the Neumann University Knights.

DiGiulio, in his 3rd season with the Whalers, posted 25 points on 14 goals and 11 assists in 46 games this season in the blue and green.  In 3 seasons, DiGiulio skated in 147 games, tallying 33 goals and 27 assists for 60 career points and leaves Hampton Roads as a two time USPHL Premier National Champion.

"Thanks to the entire Whaler organization for the opportunity they have provided me over the last 3 years", stated DiGiulio.  "I appreciate all the support and guidance from Pat Cavanagh, Coach Taylor, Coach Gatto, and Coach Rodriguez. Although this season ended without the opportunity to 3 peat, the two National Championships meant a lot! The best teammates on and off the ice! Thanks to my billets and to my family for all the support and help along the way! Lastly, thank you to Coach Mountain for the opportunity to continue my hockey career. Excited for the next 4 years"!

“Joe exemplified what the Whalers are all about”, stated head coach Greg Gatto. “Joe had great character, and was a great teammate and player. He played up and down our line-up and always made us a better team. I am proud of his commitment and am looking forward to seeing his colligate career progress”.

Neumann University is located in Ashton, PA and competes in the NCAA’s division 3 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC).

DiGiulio is the 5th Whaler committed from the 2019-20 season joining Jacob Kaplan (Morrisville), Chris Mott (Morrisville), Thomas McGuire (Neumann), and Connall Muldoon (Western Washington).
