#5 Thomas McGuire

"Thomas has been a leader for the Whalers on and off the ice since day 1", stated Owner Patrick Cavanagh.  I am very proud of his opportunity to Neumann University, he will immediately  become a highly regarded member of that program and I wish him all the best".

The Hampton Roads Jr. Whalers are proud to announce that 1999 defenseman Thomas McGuire from Massapequa, NY has committed to playing college hockey in 2020 for the Neumann University Knights.

McGuire, in his 2nd season in the Whalers, has posted 36 points on 9 goals and 27 assists in 40 games this season while captaining the Whalers.  He joined the Whalers early last season en route to capturing the USPHL Premier National Championship, posting 18 points on 9 goals and 9 assists in 37 total games.

“I’m really excited to commit to Neumann University”, stated McGuire.  Coach Mountain and assistant Coach Mcnelis started recruiting me a few months ago, and when I visited the school I knew it was the right place for me. Playing for the Whalers you are expected to perform at a high level on and off the ice and I’m looking forward to taking this mindset to Neumann. I want to thank Mr. Cavanagh, Coach Gatto, Coach Rodriguez, and the rest of the Whalers staff for making this dream a reality”.

“I am excited for T-Mac and his family”, stated Premier Head Coach Greg Gatto.  “He’s worked hard for this opportunity and Neumann is getting a great defenseman, leader, and person”.

Neumann University is located in Ashton, PA and competes in the NCAA’s division 3 United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC).

McGuire is the 4th Whaler committed from the 2019-20 season joining Jacob Kaplan (Morrisville), Chris Mott (Morrisville), and Connall Muldoon (Western Washington).
