"Jacob’s three years with the Whalers illustrate his incredible individual development, stated Whalers owner Patrick Cavanagh.  "The challenges placed on him were significant and he had to push himself further than ever before. By doing just that, he has become a two-time Champion.  He joins 2019 Whalers Champion, Brendan Borg at Morrisville and will be a tremendous asset for the Mustangs and Coach Krogol".

The Hampton Roads Jr. Whalers are proud to announce that 1999 forward Jacob Kaplan from Bowie, MD has committed to playing college hockey in 2020 for the Morrisville State University Mustangs.

Kaplan, in his 3rd season in the Whalers, is a two time USPHL Champion, 1st in 2018 with the Elite team and again last season with the Premier team.  So far in 2019-2020, Kaplan has posted 52 points in 27 games on 20 goals and 32 assists to lead the Premier team in scoring.  In his 3 seasons in the blue and green, Kaplan has skated in 114 career games, tallying 114 career points on 46 goals and 68 assists.

“Whaler Nation has always been home to me”, stated Kaplan.  “Ever since I arrived here it was all about family.  I love every last guy that I’ve sat in that dressing room with, they’ll be my brothers for life. I’ve been fortunate enough to win two championships here, making memories with guys that’ll last forever.  The work isn’t done yet, I still have a little bit of junior hockey left in me.  I’m ready to give it everything I have to end this year with the boys and make it special. Let’s go Whalers!! Let’s go Mustangs.”

“Jacob has consistently been one of our go to scorers all season”, stated Premier Head Coach Greg Gatto.  “He plays in all situations and uses his size and reach to his advantage to control possession and drive offense. Congrats to Kap and his family”.

Morrisville State University is located in Morrisville, NY and competes in the NCAA’s division 3 State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC).

Kaplan becomes the Whalers 1st commitment of the 2019-20 season.
