Saturday Premier 1-0 WIN

#25 Connor Hunt

Saturday the Premier team opened their season with a tight back and forth battle that went to the wire.  The Whalers and Knights played a close checking scoreless opening period, before the Whalers unleashed a 14 shot barrage in the middle frame. Yet, the Whalers were still unable to crack Atlanta net minder Dominik Vollenweider until the 2:53 mark of the 3rd when the Whalers banked home a shot in front for the only marker of the game to propel the Whalers to a 1-0 win.

Conner Hunt scored the Whalers lone goal.  Matthew Hanchon picked up the lone assist.  Goalie Sean Dickson picked up right where he left off last season, stopping 21 shots for his 1st win and 1st shutout of the season.

The Whalers held a 31-21 shot on goal advantage.  Hampton Roads went 1 for 5 on the power play, while Atlanta went 0 for 4.

Sunday Elite 3-1 Loss

#9 Tanner Davis

On Sunday, the Whalers Elite team again dominated play, applying non stop pressure to the Knights, but the boys struggled to find the net, while Atlanta took advantage of their opportunities, notching a goal in the 1st and 2nd periods to lead 2-0 after 40.  The Whalers made it 2-1 halfway through the 3rd, but the Knights sealed it with an empty netter for the 3-1 win.

Tanner Davis scored the lone goal for the Whalers, Bryce Leger provided the assist.  Jason Horn took the loss in net with 28 saves.

Atlanta held a 29-25 shot advantage.  Both teams finished 0 for 3 on the power play.

Sunday Premier 4-2 WIN

#17 Tianyou Zuo

On Sunday, thing started out much the same, with the 2 teams playing to a scoreless tie after the opening period.  Almost halfway through the middle frame, the offense opened up thanks to the power play, as the Whalers scored back to back on a 5 on 3, then on a 5 on 4 to take a 2-0 lead.  The Knights would convert a 2 on 1 to tighten the game to 2-1 after 40.  The Whalers would briefly extend their lead back to 2 goals 5 minutes into the 3rd, but Atlanta responded just a minute later on the power play.  Things would stay that way until the final tick on the clock when the Whalers put home an empty netter to seal the 4-2 win.

Nikita Anistratenko scored twice for the Whalers, while Tianyou Zuo and Adam Toor each had 1.  Joe DiGiulio, Trent Wydrowski, Nikita Anistratenko, and Adam Toor each had 1 assist.  Sean Dickson secured his 2nd win of the season in net with 32 saves,

The Knights had a 34-33 shot on goal advantage.  The Whalers finished 2 for 5 on the power play, while Atlanta was 1 for 8.
