Whalers O'Kane makes NCAA Commitment to King's College

The Hampton Roads Jr. Whalers are proud to announce that 1997 defenseman Seamus O’Kane (Hinsdale, IL) has committed to Kings College NCAA D3 team for the 2017-18 season.

The 6’2, 185lbs veteran defenseman has tallied 36 points in 86 career games over two years for the Whalers Elite team on 3 goals and 33 assists, helping lead the Elite team to the 2015-16 USPHL Elite championship.

"I am excited to begin my college athletic career at King's College", stated O'Kane. "I would like to thank the Whalers organization for the success I've been able to be a part of over the last two seasons. Special thanks go out to Mr. Patrick Cavanagh, Coach Rod Taylor, and Coach Jon Vaillancourt for all they have done for my development as both a person and a hockey player".

"Seamus was a solid player for the team", stated head coach Rod Taylor.  "He had a great presence when on the ice.  He improved greatly from when he arrived and through his tenure here.  He is a strong competitor and was always wanting to do better for himself. He is a very smart kid and and was a pleasure to coach.  I wish him the best in his career- he has a lot to offer".

Kings College is located in Wilkes Barre, PA and competes in the NCAA D3’s newly formed United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC) with the likes of Elmira, Manhattanville, Utica, Neumann, Stevenson, Lebanon Valley, and Hobart.

O’Kane becomes the 8th Whaler to advance his career this season, joining Vaden McManus (Utica College), Liam Walsh (Stevenson University), Brendon Zack (Buffalo State), Travis Volmert (Bryn Athyn), Cole Helgemo (Oakland University), Brandon Osmundson (Corpus Christi NAHL), and John Moncovich (Corpus Christi NAHL).
