#2 Travis Volmert

"Travis' journey has been impressive to be a part of", stated Whalers GM Patrick Cavanagh. "He is an outstanding person with superior drive to better himself. Whaler Nation takes pride in recruiting high character young people  who are willing to make sacrifices and outwork opponents, in Travis Volmert's case, he has raised that bar".

The Hampton Roads Jr. Whalers are proud to announce that 1996 defenseman Travis Volmert from Parker, CO has committed to playing NCAA hockey next season for the Bryn Athyn Lions.

The 6’2, 190lbs veteran defenseman has tallied 25 points in 53 games on 6 goals and 19 assists this season for the Whalers, including 4 power play goals and 5 power play assists good for 3rd among defenseman in scoring.  In 4 seasons with the Whalers, Volmert has tallied 60 points in 166 career games on 9 goals and 51 assists along with 70 penalty minutes. Volmert was instrumental in helping lead the Whalers to the 2015-16 USPHL Elite championship.

“We are excited to have Travis joining our institution and hockey program next fall”, stated Bryn Athyn Head Coach Andrew Burke. “We have built a good relationship with the Whalers and really understand what type of student-athlete they produce.  We think Travis will be a major factor in our success at the NCAA D-3 level. He plays the game the right way and has a great skill set that will easily translate into the next level”.

“I'm extremely thankful to the Whaler organization for everything they have done making these past 4 seasons the best of my life”, stated Volmert. “I also would like to thank my parents, billet family, and friends for supporting me every step of the way. I look forward to taking the next step in my career and to further my education”.

“Travis is a solid defenseman that worked hard to improve his game”, stated Head Coach Rod Taylor.  “I am very happy to see him continue his game at the college level.  He has a strong work ethic and very thick skin. If he ever made a mistake, he took his lumps and worked extra hard to correct them.  He never complained, and I could always count on him to come back strong.  He had many career highlights and finished the year with a very productive offensive year as a defenseman.  He is a very team oriented player and you always knew he played for the Whaler logo and all that it represents.  Bryn Athyn is lucky to have Travis join their team”.

Bryn Athyn is located in Bryn Athyn, PA and competes in the NCAA’s newly former United Collegiate Hockey Conference (UCHC).

Volmert becomes the 6th Whaler to advance his career this season, joining Vaden McManus (Utica College), Liam Walsh (Stevenson University), Brendon Zack (Buffalo State), Brandon Osmundson (Corpus Christi NAHL), and John Moncovich (Corpus Christi NAHL). Travis will join former Whalers Craig Boyd and Dustin White at Bryn Athyn.  The Whalers look forward to announcing more commitments in the coming weeks.
