Whalers Win 3 of 4 on the Road in Richmond

Saturday USP3 4-3 WIN


#10 Jonah Lainesse

The Whalers and Generals played a tight 1-1 game through 40 minutes of play before the teams exchange goals twice in the 3rd period to send the game into overtime tied 3-3.  Defenseman Jonah Lainesse muscled home the winner to send the Whalers to a 4-3 win, spoiling the Generals home opener.

Max Loga, Matthew Hanchon, and Mathieu Doucet also scored goals for the Whalers.  Noah Kramer, Gary Eastlack, and Matthew Hanchon each posted 1 assist.  Everett Yasinski picked up the win in net with 26 saves.

The Whalers held a 38-29 shot on goal advantage.  Hampton Roads finished 1 for 5 on the power play, Richmond was 0 for 3.

Saturday Elite- 6-0 WIN


#21 Brandon Osmundson

The Whalers came into Saturday's match-up looking to avenge their 1st regulation loss of the season and did just that, scoring twice in each period en route to a 6-0 win, silencing the Generals home crowd and leading the Whalers to an home opener sweep over Richmond.

John Moncovich and Brandon Osmundson each scored twice while David Min and Vaden McManus each tallied 1. Osmundson also netted 2 assists, John Moncovich, Travis Volmert, John Horn, and David Min each had 1.  Sean Dickson was stellar in net with his 7th win and 4th shutout with 21 saves.

The Whalers held a 29-21 shot advantage.  Hampton Roads went 0 for 7 on the power play while Richmond was 0 for 5.

 

Sunday USP3 2-0 Loss


#35 Everett Yasinski

Nothing went right for the Whalers on Sunday, as the Generals caused the Whalers problems all game.  Richmond broke a scoreless tie midway through the 2nd period and tallied a goal late to split the weekend with a 2-0 win.

Everett Yasinski took the loss in net, stopping 38 shots in a stellar performance.

The Generals outshot the Whalers 40-23.  Both teams finished 0 for 5 on the power play.

Sunday Elite 3-0 WIN


#31 Sean Dickson

The Whalers offensive paced slowed down Sunday, riding a 1-0 lead through 40 minutes, but their defensive presence was outstanding, allowing only 10 shots and notching two 3rd period goals en route to a 3-0 win and back to back shutouts.

John Moncovich, Billy Brock, and Brandon Osmundson each tallied 1 goal apiece.  David Min, Zach Zalar, Roman Gaudet,, Nick Richards, and Brendan Zack each posted 1 assist.  Sean Dickson picked up win #8 and shutout #5 with a 10 save shutout.

The Whalers held a 31-10 shot advantage.  Both teams finished 0 for 3 on the power play.

The Whalers will continue their 10 game road trip with a cruise down I-95 to face-off with the Potomac Patriots in Woodbridge, VA at the Prince William Ice Center.

Elite Goalie Sean Dickson posted his league leading 5th shutout on the season this weekend to improve to 8-0-0 in 8 starts. Dickson leads the league in Wins, GAA, Save %, and Shutouts.

The Whalers Elite team boosts the leagues top 4 scorers in Brandon Osmundson (30pts), Billy Brock (24pts), Roman Gaudet (23pts), and John Moncovich (22pts).

Moncovich leads the Elite division in goals with 15.

Osmundson Leads the Elite division in assists with 18.

Colton Seeman and Billy Brock share the lead in the Elite Division in Short-Handed goals with 3 each.

Gary Eastlack sits 3rd in the USP3 division in goals with 13 and is tied for 10th in points with 21.

Everett Yasinski is 4th in the USP3 division in wins with 5.

Matthew Hanchon sits in 4th in the USP3 division in assists with 13.

USP3 defenseman Brett Peer has been traded to the Steele County Blades in the USPHL Midwest division.

Elite forward Colton Seeman sereved a 2 game suspension this weekend and will be back in the line-up against Potomac.

Elite forward Tianyou Zuo has returned back to China to compete in 3 games with his national club.  He will return to the team in two weeks.
