The Hampton Roads Jr Whalers are proud to announce that 1995 forward Radoslaw Sawicki has sign a 1 year professional hockey contract for the 2016-17 season with GKS Katowice of the Polish Hockey League (PHL), Poland’s top pro league.

Sawicki posted a team leading 63 points during the regular season, while tacking on another 8 for the Whalers in route to the USPHL Elite Championship.  In total, Sawicki posted 26 goals and 45 assists for 71 points in 51 games for the Whalers, including 8 power play assists and 6 game winning goals.

“It was a great season in Hampton Roads”, stated Sawicki.  “We won almost every game and I am happy to have been a part of the Whalers team and organization.  Coaches Rod Taylor and Jon Vaillancourt taught me how to be a winner not only on the ice but also in life.  My time with the Whalers has prepared me to play pro this upcoming season”.

Sawicki becomes the 8th Whaler in franchise history to make his pro debut and the 2nd to appear with GKS Katowice, joining former Whalers forward Mike Swiderski.

Sawicki’s pro contract continues an impressive off-season for the Whalers organization that has seen 13 college commitments off last year’s roster that also boast 3 NAHL commitments, along with 2 alumni drafted in the USHL.
