Whalers Goaltender Ketzenberger Commits to URI

The Hampton Roads Jr. Whalers are proud to announce that 5'11, 185lb, 1995 goaltender J.T. Ketzenberger has committed to play college hockey for the University of Rhode Island (URI) in the fall. 

Ketzenberger, a Frederick, MD native, is in his 3rd season with the Whalers, his 1st with the Elite team after spending 2 seasons developing on the USP3 squad.  J.T. finished with a regular season record of 17-1-1 for the USPHL Elite Champion Whalers, ranking him 2nd in the USPHL in wins.  Ketzenberger posted an impressive 2.51 GAA and a .910 save% on the campaign including 1 shutout.  In the postseason, Ketzenberger took the reins in net and ran with it, posting a perfect record of 5-0, with a stellar 1.50 GAA, .937 save % and 1 shutout. 

"I am excited and looking forward to the opportunity of extending my hockey career at University of Rhode Island", stated Ketzenberger. "I would like to thank Mr. Cavanagh, Coaches Rod Taylor, Jon Valliancourt, and Brad Jones for all pushing me to be my best daily. Special thanks to all my teammates at Whaler Nation and my family, I wouldn't be where I am today without them". 

"JT is a hard working and very determined goaltender", stated Head Coach Rod Taylor . "It was that determination that really drove his success . He was a very solid goal tender and he came up with huge saves that won games for us down the stretch.  He was one of the most improved players that came through our organization and he really earned his spot on the Elite team.  I wish him the best of luck at URI".


URI is located in Kingston, RI.  The Rams compete in the ACHA D1 Eastern States Collegiate Hockey League (ESCHL). 

Ketzenberger becomes the Whalers 14th commitment from the 2015-16 season, joining Jacob Lainesse (Stevenson), Jacob Gerson (Utica), Ryan Bochert (Morrisville State), Henry Hearon (Morrisville State), Dominic Moore (Morrisville State), Dustin White (Bryn Athyn), Radek Sawicki (Polish National Team), Brendan Stengel (Slippery Rock), Christian Johansen (Mercyhurst), Peyton Midgette (Norwich), Jared Gale (Slippery Rock), Nick Gimbel (George Mason), and Luke VanSchaack (Eastern Washington University).  The Whalers want to congratulate everyone on a fantastic season and wish them the best of luck at the next level.
