#23 Tanner Tinoco

"Tanner represents the type of person/player we seek at Whaler Nation", stated GM Patrick Cavanagh.  "He is highly skilled and motivated for success.  It is no surprise he has advanced to the next level and will certainly be a key player at the University of Southern Maine in the years to come".

The Hampton Roads Jr. Whalers are proud to announce that 5'7, 175lb, 1994 forward Tanner Tinoco has committed to play NCAA hockey for the Southern Maine Huskies in the fall.

Tinoco, a West Covina, CA native, just completed his 2nd season with the Whalers, notching 7 goals and 22 assists this season for 29 points in 35 games for the Whalers.  The Whalers assistant captain tallied 3 power play goals and 5 power play assists to go along 1 game winning goal this season.  He also tallied 1 goal and 5 assists in 8 playoffs games, helping the Whalers reach their 2nd straight USPHL Final Four appearance and claim the USPHL Southern Conference regular season championship.

"I just wanted to thank everyone in the Hampton Roads Whalers organization for helping me commit to Southern Maine", stated Tinoco. "The past two years playing in this organization has helped push me to become the player I am today.  From the management and coaching staff, to the billets, and all the fans and people in the front office, I can't thank everyone enough and am happy to call them my family, and happy to say I am a Whaler for life"!!!.

"Tanner was a great all around player for us as well as one of my best penalty killers", stated Head Coach Rod Taylor.  "He was one of those kids that you could put on the ice in those tough situations late in the game knowing that he would get the job done.  I have no doubt that he will be successful at the next level".

Southern Maine is located in Gorham, ME and competes in the NCAA's ECAC East conference.

Tinoco becomes the Whalers 3rd commitment so far, joining Trevor Voelker (St. Anselm) and T.J. Sneath (Oswego).  The Whalers will be announcing many more NCAA commitments in the next few weeks, stay tuned to www.whalernation.com for more commitment announcements.
