Elite Goes 3-1 in Boston, Close in on #1 Seed

The Whalers Elite team had a strong showing in Boston, going 3-1-0 on the weekend, expanding their division lead to 13 points.  With 6 games remaining, the Whalers need a win, or a loss today by the Florida Eels to clinch the #1 seed going into the 2014-15 USPHL Playoff's.

Game 1- 5-2 Loss vs. NH Monarchs

The Whalers were unable to get things going against the Monarchs, giving up 5 goals in the 2nd half of the game dropping a 5-2 decision. 

TJ Sneath and Craig Boyd scored the lone goals for the Whalers, while Sean Tannenbaum took the loss in net with 16 saves.

Game 2- 5-3 WIN vs. South Shore Kings

This time the Whalers used a strong 2nd half to come out on top of the Kings, converting 4 times in the final frame en route to a 5-3 win.

Trevor Voelker and Jacob Gerson each converted twice, while Ryan Webber added a powerplay marker to lead the Whalers to victory.  Blake Scott stood tall in goal with 31 saves. 

Game 3- 10-0 WIN vs. Providence Capitals

In game 3, the Capitals proved to be no match for the Whalers, who outshot Providence 58-7 and rolled to a 10-0 win.

12 different Whalers found the scoresheet, lead by Griffin Leach, Jacob Gerson, TJ Sneath with 4 points each, Tanner Tinoco and Dominic Moore with 3, and Trevor Voelker with 2.  Blake Scott and Sean Tannenbaum shared the shutout in net, combined for 7 saves, each playing 25 minutes. 

Game 4- 2-1 WIN vs. Jersey Hitmen

The final game of the weekend turned out to be the best, as the Whalers and Hitmen battled tooth and nail to a 2-1 contest.

All 3 goals were scored on the powerplay, with Griffin Leach and Trevor Voelker converting for the Whalers.  Blake Scott got the win in net with 23 saves.

Empire

The Whalers Empire squad continues to fight for their playoff lives, grabbing 3 pointsgoing 1-2-1 in Boston, they now have a 1 point lead for the 8th and final playoff, and trail the 7th place Patriots by 1 point and the 6th place Eagles by 2 points in a hotly contested Southern Conference.

Game 1- 3-2 Shootout Loss

Game one was one of what if's for the Whalers, as they outshot the Breakers 39-27, but were unable to overcome strong play in net by Ben Jenkins, and fell 3-2 in a shootout.

Brandon Osmundson converted the only Whalers goals and Ian Crosbie took the loss in net with 25 saves.

Game 2- 5-3 Loss vs. Jersey Shore Whalers

Five on Five, the Whalers dominated Jersey Shore, but special teams was another story, as the JS Whalers converted 4 powerplay goals, 3 of the 5 on 3 variety, then added an empty netter to seal the game.

Brandon Osmundson, John Moncovich, and Zach McDaniel each found the back of the net.  JT Ketzenberger made 22 saves in the loss.

Game 3- 3-1 Loss vs. PAL Islanders

In another contest that saw the Whalers dominate possession, turnovers proved to costly and Domen Perovsek could muster the only Whalers goal in a 3-1 loss.  Zach Alvarado took the loss in net with 24 saves.

Game 4- 3-2 WIN vs. Jersey Hitmen

Jared Gale and John Moncovich scored regulation goals for the Whalers, who went 2-2 through overtime and into a shootout against the hitmen.

In the shootout, Moncovich and Brandon Osmundson converted, while JT Ketzenberger stopped 2 of 3 in the shootout to lead the Whalers to the win.
