Whalers Elite celebrate a weekend sweep with a 2-1 win over Syracuse

Whalers 11 vs. Bay State Breakers 1

The Whalers kicked off the showcase in dominating fashion, scoring 11 unanswered goals, getting points from 14 different players en route to an 11-1 drubbing of the Bay State Breakers.

Oliver Lindstrom recorded a hat trick, TJ Sneath (2), Trevor Voelker (2), Regen Cavanagh, Griffin Leach, Jacob Gerson, and Nate Richards all tallied goals.  Oliver Lindstrom, Ty Ayers, Craig Boyd (2), Kody Rodriguez, Griffin Leach, Ryan Piscotty, TJ Sneath (2), Dominic Moore (3), Ryan Webber, Tanner Tinoco (3), Regen Cavanagh (2), and Trevor Voelker (2) all tallied assists.  Blake Scott picked up the win in net with 10 saves.

Whalers 2 vs. Portland Pirates 0

Griffin Leach and TJ Sneath each tallied goals and Taylor Brost stopped 31 shots as the Whalers rolled to a 2-0 shutout victory over the Portland Pirates.

Ryan Webber, TJ Sneath, Dominic Moore, and Tanner Tinoco recorded assists.  Portland went 0 for 6, the Whalers 0 for 5 on the PP.

Whalers 4 vs. Islanders Hockey Club 3- SHOOTOUT

The Islanders scored to late goals to force overtime, but the Whalers hung on to win it in a shootout. Jacob Gerson tallied 2 goals, and Trevor Voelker 1 goal to lead the Whalers Saturday afternoon against the Islanders.  TJ Sneath sealed the victory with the lone goal in a shootout to propel the Whalers to a 4-3 win. 

Blake Scott stopped 29 shots in regulation and overtime, plus all 3 shootout attempts to pick up the win in net. Nick Richards, Tanner Tinoco, and Regen Cavanagh each tallied helpers.

Whalers 2 vs. Syracuse Stars 1

The battle of 1st place teams in the South and North lived up to its billing Sunday afternoon at Lawyer Arena at Merrimack College as the Whalers and Stars battled neck and neck for 50 minutes, as the Whalers scrapped out a 2-1 victory.

Jacob Gerson scored an early power play goal for the Whalers, and Dominic Moore scored the game winner with 10 minutes to play in the Whalers win.  Taylor Brost was rock solid in net, stopping 26 shots en route to victory.

The Whalers outshot the Stars 31-27.  Hampton Roads finished 1 for 2 on the power play, while the Stars went 0 for 4.  Ryan Webber, Jacob Gerson, and TJ Sneath (2) notched assists for the Whalers.

The Whalers finished the showcase 4-0, stretching their winning streak to 9 games and opening up a 3 point lead atop the USPHL South Division standings.

Whalers celebrate a goal against Frederick at Merrimack College

Whalers 6 vs. Islanders Hockey Club 0

The Whalers kicked off the showcase in dominating fashion Friday morning at Skate 3 arena, with a 6-0 blanking of the Islanders.

Kyle Prestis notched his first career goal, which turned out to be the game winner to spark the Whalers offense.  John Horn scored twice, Zach McDaniel, Caelan Bolanowski, and Joe Sauer also scored.  Brandon Osmundson (2), Phoenix Dreer (2), Peyton Midgette, Brendan Stengel, John Moncovich, Caelan Bolanowski, Kyle Newsome, Anton Nikitin, Nick Gimbel, and Austin Glaser all notched assists.  JT Ketzenberger posted his 2nd shutout of the season in net with 25 saves.

Whalers 6 vs. Frederick Freeze 3

Anton Nikitin scored 23 seconds into the contest and the Whalers never looked back Friday night at the Lawler Arena at Merrimack College en route to a 6-3 victory over the Freeze.

Caelan Bolanowski, John Moncovich, Brendan Stengel, Peyton Midgette, and Zach McDaniel also scored for the Whalers.  Jared Gale (2), Austin Glaser, Alex Ouellet, Anton Nikitin, Kyle Newsome, John Horn, and Brandon Osmundson all notched assists for the Whalers.  JT Ketzenberger picked up the win in net with 14 saves.

Whalers 0 vs. New York Aviators 4

The Whalers power play struggled Saturday against the leagues top team in a penalty filled affair, as the Aviators cruised to a 4-0 victory. 

The Whalers finished 0 for 10 on the power play, the Aviators 2 for 4.  JT Ketzenberger took the loss in goal with 42 saves.

For New York, 6 players and their coach were ejected, 3 players were ejected for Hampton Roads. New York finished with 104 penalty minutes on 22 infractions, the Whalers had 12 infractions for 49 minutes.

Whalers 4 vs. South Shore Kings 1

John Horn scored his 1st of 2 goals just 54 seconds into the game and the Whalers outshot the Kings 35-8 en route to a dominating win the wrap up the weekend.  Anton Nikitin also scored twice for the Whalers.

Zach McDaniel (3), Anton Nikitin (2), Alex Ouellet, and John Moncovich all tallied assists for the Whalers.  Ian Crosbie picked up his second win of the season in net with 7 saves.

After a slow start to the season, the Whalers finished the weekend 3-1-0-0, jumping two spots in the standings, and improving to 5-4-1-0- in their last 10 games.

 

What's on Tap?

The Whalers will continue their month of November road swing as they travel to the Marietta Ice Center in Georgia for a weekend tilt with the Atlanta Knights.

Defenseman Austin Glaser will be out for the season after under going surgery to repair a torn rotator cuff.

The Whalers have signed 1996 defenseman Christian Johansen from Brooklyn, NY.
