Elite sweep, Empire Swept

Saturday Empire 5-1 Loss

Saturday night the Eagles scored a pair of goals in the first two periods, and added one in the 3rd en route to a 5-1 victory over the Whalers.  Nick Gimbel scored the Whalers lone goal on a feed from John Horn.  For East Coast, Chase Taylor had 2 goals and Kyle Bullock notched 3 assists to lead the Eagles. 

JT Ketzenberger took the loss in net for the Whalers, stopping 31 of 36 Eagles shots.  Matt Forslund picked up the win for the Eagles, stopping 22 of 23 Whalers shots.

The Whalers finished 0 for 2 on the man advantage while the Eagles were 1 for 5.

Saturday Elite 7-2 WIN

With high hopes coming into the 2014-15 season, a veteran laden Whalers roster didn't disappoint a packed house at the Chilled Ponds, dominating the East Coast Eagles en route to a 7-2 win on opening night.

TJ Sneath and Tanner Tinoco both notched 3 point nights, while Ryan Webber, Griffin Leach, and Nate Richards had two apiece.  Graham Winship also notched a goal, while Oliver Lindstrom and Dominic Moore each had an assist.  Jordan Hall and Zach Frank scored for East Coast.

Taylor Brost picked up the win in net for the Whalers with 16 saves, while Eric Ziegler took the loss with 30 saves.

The Whalers finished 3 for 6 on the powerplay while the Eagles went 1 for 2.

 

Sunday Empire 7-2 Loss

A slow start doomed the Whalers on Sunday, falling behind 5-1 after 20 minutes of play to the Eagles, eventually falling 7-2.  Nikita Amnistratov had a big 4 point game, while Ben Miller and Daniel Brescia notched 2 points for East Coast.  Joe Sauer and Peyton Midgette scored for the Whalers while Sauer, Domen Perosvek, John Horn, and Caelan Bolanowski picked up assists.

Zach Alvarado took the loss in goal, allowing 3 goals on 9 shots in the 1st period, Ian Crosbie came on in relief, allowing 4 goals on 29 shots the rest of the way.  Harrison Drewitt picked up the win in net for the Eagles, stopping 21 of 23 Whalers shots. 

The Whalers finished 1 for 2 on the powerplay while the Eagles went 1 for 4.

Sunday Elite 5-4 WIN-Shootout

Sunday the Whalers started fast, jumping out the a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes and 4-2 after 40, but finished slow, as the Eagles came from behind to force overtime before the Whalers prevailed in a shootout on a Dominic Moore goal to secure the weekend sweep.

TJ Sneath and Regen Cavanagh had big games with 4 points apiece, while Dominic Moore had a goal and an assist and Griffin Leach finished with 1 assist. Zach Frank scored twice and finished with 3 point for East Coast, while Jordan Hall and Vaden McManus each scored once.

Taylor Brost picked up the win in goal again for the Whalers, stopping 18 for the Whalers in regulation plus all 4 shots in the shootout.  Frank Cundiff took the loss in goal for the Eagles with 25 saves, stopping 3 of 4 in the shootout.

Both teams went scoreless with the man advantage, as the Eagles went 0 for 4 and the Whalers 0 for 2.

The Whalers will take to the road this weekend as they travel to Glen Allen, VA to meet with the newest member of the USPHL, the Richmond Generals at the Skate Nation.

News and Notes

The Whalers have signed 1994 forward Kody Rodriguez from Bountiful, UT.

Whalers Elite defenseman Tommy Berger will undergo surgery and miss 4-6 months after tearing the labrum in his shoulder.

The Whalers have traded goaltender Blake Scott to the Northern Cyclones.
