Defenseman Scott Cornfield Commits to New England College

The Hampton Roads Jr. Whalers are proud to announce that 1992 defenseman Scott Cornfield, from Brea, CA, has committed to play NCAA college hockey for the New England College Pilgrims in the fall.  Cornfield spent two seasons patrolling the blue line for the Whalers.  In his 1st season, Cornfield racked up 5 goals and 8 assists for 13 points.  This season, Cornfield made giant leaps, finishing 4th on the team in scoring and 3rd amongst all EJHLS defenseman in scoring with 12 Goals and 22 Assists for 34 points.  Scott was the Whalers most efficient defenseman on the power play, amassing 5 goals and 11 assists with the man advantage, including 2 game winning goals. 

“Scott was among the most consistent defenseman for the Whalers during his stay”, stated Whalers Owner Patrick Cavanagh.  “He has tremendous ability to jump into the offensive zone and not compromise his defensive responsibilities.  I am proud of him and look forward to watching him as a member of New England College.”

“Scott has been a tremendous player for the Whalers over the last two seasons”, stated Head Coach Andy Newton.  “He has been a steady presence for us on the back end and is ability to jump into the rush and create offense on the back end will be a huge asset to the NEC program.”

New England College is located in Henniker, NH.  The Pilgrims compete in the ECAC East.

Cornfield will joing fellow teammate and California native Brett Kilar as a part of the NEC Pilgrims.
